Once matured, the whisky is subjected to a final maturation stage in virgin American oak casks, a wood type that is seldom utilized in the Scotch whisky industry. These casks are placed in the warmest, highest reaches of Laphroaig’s warehouse to heighten the exposure of the whisky to the wood.
