Two brothers founded the distillery in 1831, and after their deaths numerous others took over the attempt to continue the distillery. All failed until a financial manager and a wine and spirits merchant succeeded in taking over. Talisker was triple distilled until 1928, then only double. After a fire in 1960, the distillery was rebuilt true to the original. Today, Talisker belongs to the Diageo spirits group.

The single malts from different distilleries bear the names of the seven royal houses of the famous series “Game of Thrones”.
