Founded in 1910 in the picturesque north-west of Kyoto, in Tottori Prefecture, the Matsui Shouzou Distillery is located in the immediate vicinity of the extinct volcano Mount Daisen.

The distillery is characterized by the production of ten single malt and five grain whiskies.

One of its outstanding whiskies is the Kurayoshi Pure Malt, a Japanese whisky that is matured for three years in oak casks and has similarities with the Nikka Pure Malt, Nikka Red Pure Malt and Cardhu Malt Whisky.

“Kurayoshi” is a fantasy name created by the Matsui Distillery and adorns the bottle as a character. Kurayoshi Pure Malt is characterized by its exceptionally smooth and mild taste and elegant aroma.

The Matsui Distillery, also known for sake and shochu, recommends this whisky even to those who are not normally whisky lovers, due to its smooth character without the typical spiciness, smokiness or peaty notes.
