Two brothers founded the distillery in 1831, and after their deaths numerous others took over the attempt to continue the distillery. All failed until a financial manager and a wine and spirits merchant succeeded in taking over. Talisker was triple distilled until 1928, then only double. After a fire in 1960, the distillery was rebuilt true to the original. Today, Talisker belongs to the Diageo spirits group.
Talisker 8 Years Old Special Release belongs to the new Special Release series of Diageo. All whiskies in this series are bottled at cask strength.
The whiskey has the typical characteristics of the Talisker distillery, a wild and smoky single malt – “Made by the Sea”.
The 8 year old Talisker receives its finish in former Caribbean rum pot stills.
