Two brothers founded the distillery in 1831, and after their deaths numerous others took over the attempt to continue the distillery. All failed until a financial manager and a wine and spirits merchant succeeded in taking over. Talisker was triple distilled until 1928, then only double. After a fire in 1960, the distillery was rebuilt true to the original. Today, Talisker belongs to the Diageo spirits group.
The 25 year old whisky from Talisker is distilled and bottled near the rough sea, hence its maritime underpinned taste. The whiskey matured for 25 years in oak barrels.
