The Deanston distillery, founded in 1965 in a converted 18th century cotton mill, began producing whisky in 1966. The first products were launched on the market in 1971 under the name Old Bannockburn. After the distillery was taken over by Invergordon Distillers in 1972, the first single malt was launched under the Deanston brand in 1974. A temporary closure of the distillery took place in 1982, but it was reopened by Burn Stewart Distillers in 1991 and has continued whisky production ever since.
The production of Deanston whisky takes place in the historic buildings of a former cotton mill dating back to 1785, which is characterized by its unique historical ambience. A special feature of this whisky is its finish in barrels that previously contained agave tequila from the high altitudes of Jalisco, which gives it an unmistakable aroma. This special finish gives the Deanston whisky an exotic note and sets it apart from other single malts.
