At the very edge of Scotland’s famous whisky region lies the island of Islay, which is considered the birthplace of many legendary whiskies. Legend has it that Irish monks introduced the art of distillation here. Originally, whisky production on Islay was illegal, but when the laws were relaxed, numerous distilleries were established. Among the pioneers were the farmers Donald and Alexander Johnston, who founded the Laphroaig distillery in 1815, which still bears their name today.

Laphroaig’s new 18-year-old whisky marks an important turning point in the distillery’s maturation. It retains the characteristic strong taste for which Laphroaig is known and adds new, complex facets. The entire maturation process takes place in ex-bourbon casks, making the vanilla notes, which can already be felt after 10 years, much more intense and pronounced.
