Laphroaig is a whisky distillery on the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay and is owned by the Japanese-American Beam Suntory Group. The distillery buildings are listed on the Scottish Heritage List. In the production of Laphroaig, barley malt is dried over a peat fire. The smoke from this peat, found only on Islay, gives Laphroaig its particularly rich flavor. This whisky is the original whisky that was distilled 75 years ago. Awards:- Gold medal in 2018 at the International Spirits Challenge
Laphroaig Quarter Cask first matured in classic ex-bourbon casks and was then matured in small quarter casks without the influence of sherry. This special maturation gives the Laphroaig an impressive interplay of smoky notes and intense oak. Quarter casks are casks that were used in the 19th century and were often transported by packhorse. Due to their smaller volume, the whisky in these casks has around 60 percent more contact surface with the wood than in today’s standard casks, which intensifies the aromas. This Laphroaig spent part of its maturation in quarter cask oak.
