The Grand Cru Blanchot is famous for being difficult to work due to its sun exposure being somewhat limited to mostly morning sun however it remains a warm terroir. It faces east and southeast and its slope is steep and sheltered resulting in slow ripening conditions, with a harvest that generally starts well after that of its neighbour, Les Clos. In some places, poor clays with shells, stones or even blue and green sticky, draining clays replace the Kimmeridgian limestone in the subsoil.
This wonderfully rounded Grand Cru is a remarkably textural white with a creamy mouth feel however it also has the classic flinty hallmarks and plenty of verve and vitality that makes this wine a standout. It starts with hints of white flowers and citrus before that chalky intensity takes over with subtle fruit layers of lemon, green apple, a hint of honeyed peach along with steely notes as well as a faint trace of wood, wet rock and a crisp saline finish. The palate expands with air, becoming a truly regal and noble Chardonnay. This is poised and impressive from the start to the finish and offers exceptional value for white burgundy!
Priced in the middle range for white wines from Chablis Grand Cru Blanchot. Over the past year the wine has become more affordable.
