2017 Ugo Lequio Barbaresco Gallina 750ml

Starting in the early 1980s,Ugo Lequioreleased his first bottles of wine following rigorous fruit selection from the six hectare Cascina Nuova vineyard. This historic property is located on the sun-drenched Gallina Hill that was once part of the Neive Conti Riccardi Candiani patrimony and now belongs to the Marcarino family. Years later, thanks to experience and experimentation in both the vineyard and the winery, Ugo has emerged as one of the protagonists of the revolutionary shift that prizes quality wine over quantity.

Old vines here 1953, 1963, 1971 and raised in large format oak. Gallina is a great cru. Mixed berries, dried flowers, new leather and liquorice tea. Medium-bodied, juicy and fragrant, a dried flower and tea perfume, exotic spice, rosehip and raspberry, fine mineral feel to it, and quite stony/earthy too, maybe a touch of warmth, but the fragrance and charm is laid on thick. More of that liquorice coming through on a long and pretty fresh finish. Tannin offers sure grip and lavish Neive charm to close. Great wine, and a super offering from such a warm vintage.
