2023 Lady of the Sunshine California Red Wine Nero d’Avola-Pinot Noir, California, USA

This wine is inspired by a favorite Sicilian blend of mine which pays homage to the best parts of California,the sea & mountains. The Pinot Noir comes from the certified Demeter biodynamic Chene Vineyard in the foggy Edna Valley & the Nero d’Avola comes from the CCOF organically certified Preston Vineyard planted to gravelly soils in Dry Creek Valley.

The Nero d’Avola was fermented with 50% whole cluster with native yeast and bacteria in standing 228L old french oak barrels.The Pinot was fermented with 100% whole cluster & native yeast and bacteria.The wines were pressed together at dryness in our wooden basket press & then aged in old french oak barrels for 7 months.The gamey and tannic Nero d’Avola is softened with the candied red fruit of the Pinot Noir.This wine was racked for the first time to bottle, without filtration or fining, with minimal sulfur used.
