From its unofficial beginnings in 1794, the Ardbeg distillery has a rich history that is deeply rooted in the Scotch whisky tradition. It was officially acquired by John McDougall in 1815 and registered under the name Ardbeg, which translates from Gaelic as “little hill”. This picturesque distillery is located on the south coast of the renowned whisky region of Islay, known for its deep and peaty whiskies.

With “Spectacular”, Ardbeg presents a remarkable new product that is the first of its kind to be matured in rare port casks. This special maturation method gives the whisky a deep flavor dimension and an impressive coloration, allowing aromas of dark chocolate, mint, candied fruit, smoked candles and smoked pecans to unfold in a unique ensemble.

Gillian Macdonald, Ardbeg’s Master Blender, explains that the “Spectacular” was created especially for Ardbeg Day and emphasizes how the combination of the traditional bourbon and the innovative port wine casks ignites an extraordinary firework of aromas that Ardbeggians have never experienced before.
