Unofficially, the Ardbeg distillery has been distilling since 1794 – in 1815, the distillery was bought by John McDougall and officially opened under the name Ardbeg. “Ardbeg” comes from the Gaelic and translates as “little hill”. The distillery is located on the south coast of the Islay whisky region. The Ardbeg WEE Beastie matures for just five years in ex-bourbon and oloroso sherry casks. This Ardbeg was also named after a mythical creature from the peat bogs. “Wee Beastie”, a small beast that is at home on the Scottish moors.
