The Isle of Raasay Quercus Humboldtii Virgin Columbian Oak is the distillery’s first single malt to be fully matured in previously unused Columbian oak casks, giving it a distinctive character. This special maturation ensures a broad spectrum of aromas and a deep, rich taste that makes the whisky unique. To preserve its natural purity, Raasay is bottled without added color and without chill-filtering, which underlines its authenticity.
With the Oak Species Maturation series, in which Quercus Humboldtii is the first bottling, the island distillery demonstrates the influence of different types of wood on the cask maturation and thus on the end product. The oak species Quercus Humboldtii, which grows mainly in Colombia and Panama at altitudes of 1000 to 3200 meters, is characterized by its particularly hard and dense wood, which is known for its exceptional durability.
These robust properties make it valuable not only for the furniture and construction industries, but also for the production of whisky casks, which give the Isle of Raasay single malt its unique depth and complexity.
