The old farm was converted into a bonded warehouse distillery and opened for business in August 2018. The independent, family-run distillery is managed by former Laphroaig Distillery Manager John Campbell. The poet Robert Burns lived and worked at the distillery from 1777 to 1784, a fact of which the distillery is very proud.
By using their own barley for production and sourcing water from their own on-site water supply, complete transparency and control over ingredients has been created.
Lochlea Cask Strength is matured and bottled in first-fill ex-bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks in a ratio of approximately 70/30.
