Lochlea Distillery is an independent distillery for single malt whisky, located on the historic Lochlea Farm in Ayrshire, near Glasgow, in the Scottish Lowlands. After converting the former farm into a distillery and bonded warehouse, it opened for business in August 2018. John Campbell, the former manager of the Laphroaig Distillery, took over the management. The farm, where the famous Scottish poet Robert Burns lived and worked from 1777 to 1784, not only provides a historical backdrop, but also the barley for whisky production. In addition, the water required for production is sourced from local limestone springs, which enables complete traceability of production.
The distillery produces seasonal releases, with particular emphasis placed on the spring-sown Laureate barley used for the whisky. The single malt whisky produced in this way matures in first fill bourbon barrels and is bottled without chill filtration and without the addition of colorants.
