In 1845, the distillery was founded by John Begg. Queen Victoria bought the castle, which was right next to the distillery, in 1848. John was appointed purveyor to the court and the Lochnagar distillery was thus given the addition “Royal”.
On the bottle is a white mysterious stallion. It tells the legend of the thick and cool fog with which the distillery was surrounded on the Royal Deeside, until a proud stallion, white as snow, emerged.
The Royal Lochnagar 16 Years Old Special Release is part of Diageo’s 2021 Special Release series. All whiskies in this series are bottled at cask strength and are strictly limited.
This whiskey is aged in Refill American Oak Casks and European Oak Casks.
