Two brothers founded the distillery in 1831, and after their deaths numerous others took over the attempt to continue the distillery. All failed until a financial manager and a wine and spirits merchant succeeded in taking over. Talisker was triple distilled until 1928, then only double. After a fire in 1960, the distillery was rebuilt true to the original. Today, Talisker belongs to the Diageo spirits group.
Five stills and condensing coils are used to produce Talisker Distillers Edition. The malt used for production is very peaty. The water is obtained from 14 different sources.
For Talisker, the maturation takes place in refilled American oak casks and former Amoroso casks.
